Mats becomes the 16th Captain of All-time, 1st ever European and became the longest serving Non-North American to hold captaincy. Mats will go down as One of the greatest leafs ever. He came to the Leafs in 1996 in a trade for Wendel Clark, team captain and most popular player at the time. Mats went on to a solid career with Leafs scoring 70 pts or more every season except once. Mats has Maple Leaf records of 420 Goals and 987 Points. His 567 Assists are most ever by a leaf forward

Sundin was a great player at the International also with Sweden, winning 3 Gold Medals in World Championship play (1991-1992 and 1998) and a 2006 Olympic Gold Medal in Turin, in which he served team captain for his country.In 1992 was named World Championship Top Forward
Sundin was awarded the NHL Mark Messier Leadership Award in 2008
